Pants on the Ground by “General” Larry Platt

Posted on January 20 2010 by Halima

I’m actually not watching American Idol this go round. I watch it every blue moon whenever it does come on, but I’m not an avid viewer of it. I saw a headline on Yahoo that was something along the lines of the auditions not really being what they seem. So, I clicked on it. I was reading and came to this video of Larry Platt and the many versions. The message by “General” Larry Platt is quite clear and one I support; reason it’s on my blog. Funny thing is, when I was younger I used to sag (not with my pants way down, though). I recall adults saying, “Pull your pants up!” Yea, my friends back then and other youngsters thought it was cool. It was “fashion”. Terrible, I know. But now that I am a mature adult, I do see the foolishness of it – even more seeing a grown ass adult with “his pants way down”. Gold teeth, too? Turn off!

Larry’s message is nothing new. It’s talked about by many. I even recall back in the day when I attended a thing called church, this was brought up in Sunday’s sermons. However, Larry’s bit did remind me of a line or two Seconya mentioned in a piece she did back in 2009, called “Mr Mothafucka”. And furthermore, I was reminded of my own views regarding the subject and then I remembered how sermons spoke on it, too. One thing leads to the next when “looking back”. Anyway, in this video, Seconya starts off with, “Mr Mothafucka with his pants way down. Way down to the ground what am I to do but clown…” It’s a hot piece and has more than one message told by a beautiful and sexy woman. However, both videos have great messages.

Now a remix of “General” Larry Platt’s “Pants on the Ground” song bit was done by someone on YouTube; doesn’t keep with the same tempo and energy as General, though. Nevertheless, the music he did was nice enough for me to comment on it. I got this YouTube video from the Yahoo article I was saying above that I clicked on. I don’t visit YouTube much either on my own. If I end up on YouTube it is usually because of a headline that ended up linking a video on there or if a friend or family member recommend I see something. But me just going to YouTube on my own is very rare. So, I was drawn in by the music when I saw this. It has a really nice vibe. Have a listen.

I didn’t know you ever watched American Idol … lol – and you like Cameo? I met him in a bar in Chicago that my friend bartended at and he bought me a drink and I told him that he looks just like Cameo, lol – he was cool in person, but he would not go “Ooooooowww” just for kicks – haha – I love Cameo, Word Up.

Aaaaaaaaaaand I didn’t know you made a comment until just now … lol — and er’ now and then I’ll watch it. If anything I enjoy the auditions than the rest of the show. It’s much more entertaining to me. But yea I grew up on Cameo and the works man. Owe that to my daddy and his great taste in music. I dig a couple of Cameo’s songs; not sure I like the group as a whole, though. But I do love Word Up. Funky ass song. haha. Well, it was nearly impossible for me to think – in one moment – all the songs I love. So, I’m going to add that one to the playlist in a minute. You see I got Laura Izibor’s Shine in there? ;) Had to stick that in there. Well, who else you meet? I saw your FB photos of you on stage, missy. Was that you at karaoke night or something else you were doing?
