Review: Monster-in-Law (2005)
Ok, so I’m not a fan of Jennifer Lopez, but I absolutely love this movie. I didn’t even pay attention to the romantic part of it. Initially, I wasn’t going to watch because I don’t typically like movies Jennifer plays in. However, I was persuaded into watching it. And I am so glad I was. Jane Fonda and Wanda Sykes had my attention all throughout this film. I think it was an excellent choice putting these two in a film together. Had me rolling, head hurting and the works! Man, if you haven’t seen it, yet you have got to hear Jane Fonda’s laugh. Oh my gosh! It’s so loud like and has a sort of “deep” tone to it. I love it! My favorite line and just the overall scene the quote is from is when Wanda told Jane, “And fix your wig. You look like a damn cockatoo.” You may not see the humor in that quote now but you’ve got to see the scene that led up to that point. It was hilarious! The rapport between Jane and Wanda was great! I especially loved the part when Jennifer had given Wanda (her soon to be mother-in-law in the film) the dress to wear to her wedding and as Jane and Wanda were driving off, Jennifer ran to give it to Jane (who was in the passenger’s side). And I just knew something funny was coming when I saw it, right. They drove off and Jane [censored by me]. Didn’t give a damn if it hurt Jennifer’s feelings or not. Just [censored by me]. lol. Damn. I was cracking in up, man. You just have to see this movie. The way they built up on the energy and maintained it to its peak was awesome! And oh the part Jane Fonda’s character was doing the interview with the young lady — OH MY GAWD! It’s like what?! What?!
I know I referred to the characters by the actors’ real names but a lot of times I don’t remember the characters’ names. When I watch films I love just watching the actors play their roles more times than not. So if anything, I do remember the actors that play the roles I like (most of the time). I’d go on about Monster-in-Law, but don’t want to spoil it for you. Just watch it, you won’t be disappointed (if you share the same humor). It’s at the top of my favorite movies hands down! Sorry Braveheart. Now I still like Braveheart, but it has officially been dethroned after all of these years. However it will remain in my top 5 of my favorite movies. Monster-in-Law now holds the crown in my movies faves.
