It was a very peaceful night
after a rather nice day together
I laid there beside you
in that extremely comforting bed
as we both fell asleep
while watching some movie, I think
something was on the screen
But I remember waking up
looking over at you
your face smooth with the soft glow of the colored light
the coolness of the ceiling fan
and the gentle comfort that dwelled in your room
I looked at you and smiled
I looked at you and was happy
I looked at you and gave you a kiss on your forehead
a kiss of respect
a kiss of appreciation
a kiss of gratitude
and a kiss good-bye
as I knew it would be the last
having closed my eyes to return to sleep
soaking up that moment
I absolutely loved waking up seeing you, my best friend, beside me
It was that moment,
that very moment
in the moment
I miss.
