Art History

Keeping it “Brief”:
I’m just now getting into using the paintbrush tools in the software I use to create digital art. Prior to that I was strictly a path-drawing tool designer on the vector side of things. I create just whenever I feel like it and whatever moves me. I do a lot of experimental designing (not following any sort of “recipe” or designing rules).
I don’t have college education behind me in regards to designing. I just go with the flow. It’s one of those talents that I was born with. And quite honestly it doesn’t take an educated person to learn how to draw. Even scribbling looks good. It usually takes a skilled person to draw something FOR someone else though.
I started out in graphics designing via logo contests. And man was that nerve-wrecking. But I won some contests and lost a lot of them.
Before that, growing up I was into lettering and hand drawing of characters, portraits, boats and birds. I’d use any kind of paper, scratch/torn paper, folder or notebook I could find when I had an idea. I drew largely because school was boring. Well not entirely. But drawing when I “should” have been listening to the teacher was what kept me awake besides writing notes to my friends. Nevertheless, not paying attention in class didn’t stop me from getting my HS diploma. When I wasn’t drawing or passing notes I was doing my work and getting good grades. Had to maintain my grades to continue playing basketball.
Over the years I got better and desired to create art using the computer. I was going to college to become a graphic designer because I figured why waste my talent. But I like hands on stuff. Always in the books wasn’t doing a thing for me besides I had to get my basics out of the way (english, math, etc). I got impatient and so that ended up changing because I just don’t like someone telling me how to draw something I create when I know how I want it. Creation has no rules when its your own work.
Well long story short, I ended up dropping out of college my second year. I’d like to get into animation. Going back to college is an option but largely to physically be around people of like-minds and networking purposes. Maybe even one day create “sketches” of characters that Pixar would buy off of me to further develop into one of those animation films. Now THAT would be pretty awesome!
